A Mixed Day for Team NZ

Georgia Robcke had a gruelling match against Helena Coetzee (South Africa). She played extremely well and had two match balls in the fourth. Unfortunately, she could not convert these losing the set 15-13 and then going down in the fifth 11-7. Kaitlyn Watts and Diya Joukani lost 3-0 and 3-1 respectively.

The three remaining girls in the NZ team had a better day at the office. Courtney Trail comprehensively beat Grace Pattison (Australia) 3- 0 in a trans-tasman battle. Annaleise Faint beat Reese Bain (South Africa) in four sets. At 2-1 up and 9-all in the fourth set Reese retired and conceded the match to Annaleise. In another trans-tasman battle Winona-Jo Joyce had a close first set going to tie-break 12-10 and then comfortably closed out the match. It will be a busy day for the girls tomorrow as all six kiwi girls keep playing for final positions in the world championships draw.

After a brutal battle yesterday, Anthony Lepper recovered extremely well to survive another marathon five-setter versus Asad Ullah Khan (Pakistan). After four very close sets the match was evenly poised at two-all. Anthony dug deep and showed his improved mental strength to take the game 11-8 and the match 3-2 earning himself another match tomorrow. Temwa Chileshe also had a very tight five-setter against Jack Hudson (Australia). Unfortunately, the result didn’t go the way of Team NZ despite battling hard through fatigue from previous matches. Chileshe lost the fifth game 11-9. Last match of the day Leo Fatialofa had a comfortable win over Ville Koskinen (Finland) in straight sets to advance to the next plate round tonight.
