Fifth Seeds Take Out Fourth Seeds at NZ Senior Nationals Inter-District Teams

The fifth seeds have prevailed in both the Men’s and Women’s draws of the 2017 New Zealand Senior Nationals Inter-District Teams Event whilst the top 3 seeds took their wins and a place in the semi-final.

In the Men’s Draw top seeds Wellington took their win over Central 3-1 with the sole win for Central coming from Corbin Faint who took out Sam Atkins in 5. Second seeds Auckland also only dropped one match with Matthew Lucente going down to Northland’s Luke Jones. The third seeds Bay of Plenty were too strong for local favorites Eastern taking their win 3-1 with Bryce Redman taking the win for Eastern against Matiu Te Kani Mcqueen in 5. The closest tie of the round was between fifth seeds Canterbury and fourth seeds Waikato. With both teams claiming two matches each it went back to games countback and it was Canterbury that came out on top claiming the win 9-7 on games.

In the Women’s Draw top seeds Bay of Plenty took out local heroes Eastern 4-0 and a spot in the semis. Second seeds Auckland proved their strength against Waikato winning 3-1 with Nadine Cull taking the only win for Waikato over Juee Bhide. Third seeds Central were dominant in their performance with a 4-0 win over Northland. It was another tussle between the fifth and fourth seeds with it being another upset for the fifth seeds as Wellington took out Canterbury 8-7 after a countback on games.
