Day 1 North Island Age Groups Winds Up

The first day of play at the North Island Age Groups for 2017 being held at the Whangarei Squash Club has seen the top seeds progress through unscathed.

In the Under 11 Boys first and second seeds Reece Holmes and Oliver Dunbar started off well claiming their wins in 3. In the Under 11 Girls top seed Maia Smales claimed her win in 3 whilst second seed Hayley Rhodes took her win in 4.

The Under 13 Boys saw all top 4 seeds claim their wins in 4 to progress through to the semi-finals. It was a similar affair in the Under 13 Girls where the top seeds looked comfortable in their first rounds of pool play.

The Under 15 Boys saw all top 8 seeds progress through to the quarter finals with wins in 3 or 4. It was a similar affair for the Under 15 Girls with the only upset coming from 9th seed Amy Brown who took out 8th seed Abbie Holmes in 4.

The Under 17 Boys had some of the toughest matches of the day between the 9th and 8th seeds Henry Moran and Jack Hudson with Moran claiming the win and his place in the quarter finals. The other match of the round came from 7th and 10th seeds Mitchell White and Zonal Ali with White clinching the match in 5. The Under 17 Girls saw no upsets with the top seeds making the next rounds.

The Under 19 Boys top 3 seeds had byes in their first rounds with the remaining top 8 seeds all in the quarter finals. The Under 19 Girls Pool Play saw the top seeds claim their first wins over their lower seeded opponents.
