Whangarei Squash Club Sees 112 Entries for North Island Age Groups 2016 NIAG Champs

The 2017 edition of the North Island Age Groups has drawn 112 players to the Northland region to battle for these coveted titles.

In the Under 11’s Reece Holmes will be looking to make it two titles in two weeks taking the top seed in the boys division, but it will be second seed and last weeks South Island Age Group runner up Oliver Dunbar who will be seeking to snatch the title away this week. In the Under 11 Girls Maia Smales will look to add another title to her collection after winning the Oceania Junior Championships Under 11 title earlier this year. Should all go to seeding she will need to get past local Northlander Hayley Rhodes in the final to claim the title.

In the Under 13 Boys Apa Fatialofa takes the top seeding whilst Noah Thomas the winner of the Under 13 South Island Age Groups title takes out second seeding with both players due to face each other in the final should the seedings play out. Sophie Hodges is top seed in the Under 13 Girls whilst Ella Lash takes second seeding for the event.

The Under 15 Boys sees top seed Leo Fatialofa looking to add another title to his mantelpiece with Fatialofa having claimed numerous national titles and the Oceania Junior Championships Under 15 title in April. Elijah Thomas the second seed in the Under 15’s will be coming off a high from last week claiming the Under 15 and 17 South Island Age Group titles putting him in good form for the event. Natalie Sayes takes top seeding in the Under 15 Girls and will be looking to add another title after her Under 15 South Island Age Group title. Jena Gregory is second seed in the event and will be aiming to make the final of this draw.

Top seed Gabe Yam will be looking to claim the Under 17 Boys title to set him up well for the World Junior Championships the following week. Temwa Chileshe takes the second seed in the boys draw. Top seed Winona-Jo Joyce will be looking to add the Under 17 North Island Age Groups title after claiming both the Under 17 and 19 Girls titles. Local Northlander Annmarie Holst takes second seeding in the draw and will look to use the home courts to her advantage.

Top seed in the Under 19 Boys Matthew Lucente will be seeking to claim this title heading into the World Junior Championships but second seed Finn Trimble will have the same thoughts on his mind as he seeks to win his third title this year having already claimed the Oceania Junior Championships Under 19 title and the Aon New Zealand Junior Open title. The Under 19 Girls sees Courtney Trail take the top seeding whilst second seed Emma Cormack the runner-up in the Under 19 South Island Age Groups will be looking to go one better this week and claim the North Islands title.
