Quarter Finalists of Aon NZJO Decided

The Top 8 seeds in both the Girls and Boys draws have progressed to the quarter finals on the Aon New Zealand Junior Open at the Cambridge Racquets Club and Leamington Squash Club.

In the Boys Open Matthew Lucente was too strong for Jacob Ford taking his win from the Australian in 3. It was a similar scenario for Lwamba Chileshe who got the win from Leo Fatialofa in 3. Nicholas Calvert was pushed by Michael Shelton-Agar in his match and whilst Shelton-Agar had some strong rallies he wasn’t able to sustain it for the whole match and Calvert took the win in 4. Finn Trimble proved to be too strong for Anthony Lepper and he took his win in 3. Quinn Udy took a game to warm up but then he came out strong and took the match in four from Jack Hudson. Higher seed Caleb Johnson couldn’t find his rhythm in the first two against Sean Dykes but come the third the tides changed and he managed to sneak the win in 5. Lachlan Coxsedge and Rafa Yam had a mammoth battle swinging back and forth but it was Coxsedge who was able to claim the win in 5 over Yam. Gabe Yam showed his strength and took the win in 3 over Temwa Chileshe.

In the Girls Open the top 8 players have made their way through to the quarter finals with some getting there in 3 and others being pushed harder. Kaitlyn Watts looked comfortable in her win in 3 over Courtney Mather and whilst Camden Te Kani-McQueen got there in 3 against Emma Cormack, Cormack made sure to challenge her at points sending her long in the second. Ellie Jones and Winona-Jo Joyce had the biggest battle of the night with Joyce pushing Jones to a tough five but it was Jones that got over the line. Nadia Hubbard, Anika Jackson and Courtney Trail all took their wins in 3 with some strong rallies but they were too strong for Ruby Turnbull, Annaleise Faint and Annmarie Holst respectively. Rhiarne Taiapa and Zoe Dykzeul had a high intensity battle and whilst Dykzeul was able to claim the third game Taiapa clawed it back and got the win in 4. The last match of Round 2 for the girls was Anna Hughes against Grace Pattison and whilst Pattison showed moments to push Hughes, Hughes took the win in 4.
