Finals of Southern Cross Travel Insurance Oceania Junior Championships Set
16 Apr 2017The finals of the Southern Cross Travel Insurance Oceania Junior Championships have been set with a number of tough games for many of the finalists today.
The Boys Under 11 final will see two kiwis battle it out for the title tomorrow with Matthew Growcott and Reece Holmes both winning their pool play to get to the final. The Girls Under 11 sees another Kiwi match up with Maia Smales making the final after taking her win in 3 over fellow Kiwi Saara Joukani. Anabel Romero Gennell also made her way to the final after taking out Paloma Sze of Hong Kong in 4.
The Boys Under 13 final will see Singaporean Edward Thng battling it out with Australian Oscar Curtis after both players took their wins in 3 over Dylan Classen of Australia and Mason Smales of New Zealand respectively. The Under 13 Girls final will see New Zealanders Sophie Hodges and Natalie Sayes taking on each other in the final after Hodges took a win in 3 earlier in the day over Kiwi Ella Lash and Sayes took her win in 4 over Australian Erin Classen.
The Boys Under 15 final will see a Trans-Tasman battle with Leo Fatialofa of New Zealand taking on Australian Remi Young. Fatialofa took his win in 4 over Josh Penfold of Australia whilst Remi Young took his win from New Zealander Elijah Thomas in 3. The Girls Under 15 title will be taken back to Australia with Sze Yu Lee and Georgia Lane fighting it out in the final. Yu Lee bet Katie Davies of Australia in 4 and Lane took her win from Hayley Hankinson in 4 to make the finals.
The Boys Under 17 final sees the title staying in New Zealand with Matthew Lucente and Gabe Yam having a repeat of the 2016 National Junior Age Group Under 17 final. Yam and Lucente came through to the final with a win in 3 over Jacob Ford of Australia and Temwa Chileshe of New Zealand respectively. The Girls Under 17 sees another title staying in New Zealand with Rhiarne Taiapa and Amara Afghan doing battle out in the final. Afghan took a hard fought win over New Zealands Annaleise Faint in 5 fighting back from 2 down whilst Taiapa looked strong taking her win over New Zealands Ruby Turnbull in 3.
The Boys Under 19 final will see Finn Trimble and Quinn Udy taking on each other to keep the title in New Zealand. Trimble took his win in 3 over New Zealand’s Mitchell Kempton whilst Udy got his win in 5 over Australian Caleb Johnson. The Girls Under 19 final sees the last of the Trans-Tasman battles taking place with Kaitlyn Watts of New Zealand taking on Australia’s Alex Haydon. Watts took her win over New Zealand’s Nadia Hubabrd in 3 whilst Haydon took her win in 3 over New Zealand’s Anika Jackson.
Games kick off at 8am at the Henderson Squash club and run with the last match at 3:45pm. Come down and watch some matches or settle in and watch the courts being livestreamed. Links can be found here or here and below.
