How to fit squash into your daily routine

Squash Schedule

One of life’s greatest tragedies is that we spend more time working 9-to-5 than playing squash. But if you take your opportunities, you can easily fit a lot of squash into your busy schedule.

Squash your commute

Squash facilities are everywhere. If you live near a squash club you don’t have to go far. But there are also benefits in joining a club near where you work or study. It makes it easy to fit in 30 minutes before work. At lunch you can head to the club for a sandwich and still have time to play a game. Not everyone can spend their days at their squash club, so the key is to be flexible. Look for a club or facility on your commute – with your gear ready in the boot, you can skip the traffic and instead work on your game.

Get fit

(Most) squash players are healthy and flexible. Squashies come in all shapes, sizes and at varying fitness levels. But even those who give in to their vices will get the many health benefits from playing squash. Being active leads to living longer – and the whole point is to have more time to play squash. The average person burns around 517 calories for 30 minutes on court.

Look at the positives

Forget about fitting your squash obsession into your busy life and think of it as fitting your life into your squash obsession. Need to spend more time with the family? Sign them up to play squash too! The club is a great spot for meetings, to get through emails without being bugged by fellow workers – all with the benefits of being in a familiar place.

Forget the time

Daylight hours are precious. Depending on where you live and the time of the year, there is only so many hours in the day to get out and enjoy life. Getting to bed earlier can get you some valuable squash playing time every morning. Is it really worth checking Facebook at 11pm on your phone when you could be sleeping? Being disciplined and organised is hard. But once you have finished your match – you’ll thank yourself you did!
