Canterbury have claimed the Men’s Inter-District Teams event title for the second year in a row whilst the Women’s title has been claimed by Central.

In the Men’s final Canterbury didn’t leave it down to the wire to win the title this year after winning by 1 point in 2015 they were out to show they were not be messed with. Johnny Barnett and Oliver Johnston came out firing in their games to take 3-0 wins from their Auckland counterparts Michael Blanchard and Sam Sayes respectively. It was going to be a tough ask for Auckland to come back from 2-0 down and they would have to not drop a set. It was not meant to be Auckland’s day with Sion Wiggin going down in a tough battle to Chris Van Der Salm and Canterbury claimed the title 3-0.

In the Women’s final Central and they Bay of Plenty had a much closer battle but it was not meant to be Bay of Plenty’s year. Central claimed early wins from Kaitlyn Watts and Tamsyn Leevey with them defeating Nadia Hubbard and Jo Shanks 3-0 respectively. Amanda Landers-Murphy looked set to get the Bay back on track taking a 3-0 win over Danielle Fourie. It was going to be a big task for Aliesha Watene to keep the Bay in the hunt with her not being able to drop a single game to take it to points count back. The first game was a tough battle but it fell Holly Donnelly’s way and Central claimed the women’s title.

Congratulations to all the teams and thank you to Remuera Rackets Club for a great 5 days.
